FAQ

Most things about the Mile Wall can be found here but if you have a question that’s not answered there you can feel free to ask me questions@themilewall.com

  • How are you planning to build this?
  • How much does it cost?
  • Can I have my post put at foot number “x”?
  • Can I buy and reserve a spot now and submit my piece later?
  • What’s the policy of removing something I’ve already submitted?
  • Questions of disbelief:

  • Why would anyone put their mark at foot number ‘x’? It would take forever to scroll there!
  • How do you plan to make the site load once it’s ‘x’ feet long?!
  • Q. How are you planning to build this?

The site is to be made up entirely out of images/movies of people who choose to contribute to it. You can find out how to contribute here. The success of this web site relies on people contributing enough to build a mile long web site.

    Q. How much does it cost?

The Mile Wall starts at 1 dollar per square inch of permanent internet space, which you can use for any reason. Whether it’s advertising or self expression. For a full explanation please visit here.

    Q. Can I have my Post at foot number ‘x’?

    A. You can put your mark anywhere on the Mile Wall that is currently visible. You can’t put your mark at 5280 ft right away. It would be absolute chaos if there were posts at random intervals for 1 mile! This way your image also gets the maximum exposure and isn’t lost in vast nothingness.

    Q. Can I buy and reserve a spot now and submit my piece later?

Sure. for example if you contact me and tell me you would like to reserve a 6 x 6” space in a certain location and then pay for it. I will put a reserved marker there letting others know that that spot is already taken. Then once you send me the file that you wish to place, and I approve it I’ll replace the reserved spot with your piece.

    Q. What’s the policy on replacing something I’ve already put on?

Once you’ve paid for a spot and I’ve put the image up, there are no refunds or changes that can be made to the piece itself. I will remove it if you no longer want the piece on the wall but it will become available to purchase again.

    Q. Why would anyone put their mark at foot ‘x’? It would take forever to scroll there!

This is quite true it probably would take a while to scroll the whole mile, and like someone said, I’m too lazy to walk a mile let alone scroll a mile. Which is why I’m making features so that you can be very lazy and still see any foot on the wall. This includes a search tool, whether for serious purposes or not, it really doesn’t matter but you’ll be able to find anything on the Wall. A random foot button, to jump to any random spot on the wall, which can’t hurt. I also have other plans, to make sure that you lazy scrollers don’t have to wear out your index finger.

    Q. How do you plan to make the site load once it’s ‘x’ feet long?!

The Mile Wall now uses a simple program to allow the wall to load external html pages from my site. In English this means that different pages load on to the main page in order to create the singular long wall. There will still be quite a load time and my bandwidth may be through the roof, but at least now you can scroll through the wall and it will load ahead of you as you go down. I’m working on this even more to make it so that different sections load as you scroll but it may be awhile till this issue is completely settled.

If you have a question that has not been asked yet, please do and I will get back to you asap. questions@themilewall.com
